About Us  >>  Genesis

Kurukshetra Panorama & Science Centre, Kurukshetra, is a satellite unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Established with the vision of promoting scientific temper, innovation, and awareness among the public, the Centre integrates science communication with the historical and cultural heritage of Kurukshetra. Since its inception, the Centre has served as an important platform for interactive science exhibitions, educational activities, outreach programmes, and recreational learning experiences for visitors, students, teachers, and researchers.
The Centre was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 6 March 2001. The inauguration marked the beginning of a new era of science popularization in the region. Along with the establishment of the Centre, several important facilities were introduced, including the Taramandal Show, Science Park, and Mobile Science Exhibition Bus, which significantly strengthened outreach activities and enabled science communication in rural and remote areas of Haryana and neighboring states.
Over the years, Kurukshetra Panorama & Science Centre continuously expanded its facilities and programmes to cater to evolving visitor interests and educational needs. In 2004, the Centre introduced the 3D Film Show, adding an engaging audio-visual learning experience for visitors. This was followed by the opening of the Chroma Key Studio in 2008, offering an interactive digital experience.
To highlight India’s rich scientific legacy, the Indian Scientific & Technological Heritage Gallery was inaugurated in 2012, showcasing the contributions of ancient and medieval India in science and technology. Further visitor-centric facilities such as the Museum Shop and Souvenir Corner were introduced on 1 June 2015.
The Centre expanded its outreach and thematic exhibition capabilities with the inauguration of a newly developed Mobile Science Exhibition on “Energy” on 5 September 2019. In recent years, several nature-based educational spaces were also added, including the Herbal Park in 2022, Cactus Park in 2023, and Butterfly Park in 2024, enhancing biodiversity awareness and environmental education.
The year 2025 was particularly significant as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Centre. During this period, several new facilities were added, including the Pond Ecosystem in Science Park on 22 March 2025, opening of the Cafeteria on 7 September 2025, and inauguration of advanced educational facilities such as Knowledge on Sphere (KoS) and the newly developed Energy Ball Exhibit on 4 December 2025.
Continuing its commitment towards modernization and visitor engagement, on the occasion of 25 years of Kurukshetra Panorama & Science Centre, the modern technology-based Fantasy Ride (Simulator) facility was inaugurated on 6 March 2026 as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations.
As part of its future development initiatives, the Centre is also planning to introduce a Virtual Reality (VR) Facility to provide immersive and technology-driven science learning experiences for visitors.
Today, Kurukshetra Panorama & Science Centre has emerged as an important science communication hub in Northern India, combining interactive exhibitions, educational programmes, outreach activities, environmental awareness initiatives, and recreational science learning. The Centre continues to inspire curiosity and scientific thinking among people of all age groups while contributing significantly to the mission of science popularization envisioned by NCSM.
