Since the dawn of history, different cultures from across the world have contributed to various branches of Science and Technology, often through interactive contacts across cultures. Unfortunately, history of science and technology is mostly seen in the context of western perspective, often overlooking the contributions of other cultures including India.An attempt is made through this exhibition to showcase ancient Indian independent contributions in technology.Visitors can see how the zinc smelting was done to obtain metallic zinc, which was extremely difficult using the available techniques prevailing then.
The concepts of powers of ten, the golden rule of three, how to calculate square and cube roots that were worked out around 1500 years ago, were depicted through interactive exhibits.The concept of constellations, motion of the Moon and Sun are presented in the gallery in interactive form. Visitors can see Jantar Mantar, a cluster of huge masonry observatories created by Sawai Jai Singh II for tracking celestial movements. can be seen and explored as to how the calculations were made using them.
Traditional Indian medicinal systems like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya are also explained in the exhibition. India is known for exquisite arts and handicrafts, whose glimpses can be seen at this exhibition.
